                                            WRITER’S FORUM

                   WEBSITES HELPFUL TO WRITERS

This is a series of posts which, I think, will be beneficial to writers.

But first, I would like to include my usual warning about using websites.

Whenever you check a website you are, in my opinion and I talk from experience, being put on a list for sale. So, expect the possibility of being bombarded by ads from companies you, perhaps, have never heard of and have no interest in.

I hope you find the information offered in this post helpful.

Anyone familiar with my blog is aware of the area, Writer’s Forum, which already offers a host of websites important for writers.

Manuscript Wish List

ManuscriptWishList.com

                        ANNOTHER STORY ACCEPTED

A break from my The War of the Worlds posts.

I just recently learned that YELLOW MAMA has accepted my short story, The Price of Success, for publication. It will appear in issue #106 on October 15, 2024. This is a first for me for this story has been previously published.

I want to share with writers who follow my blog of some trends I have notice concerning publishers.

More and more publishers are considering and accepting previously published work from writers. If you own the rights. Also, many publishers now accept simultaneous submissions. In the past you would submit a work and sometimes wait nearly a year to be told whether it was accepted or rejected. From some publishers, you would never hear from them. Of course, this means rejection. But in the meantime, you sat on the work waiting for an answer. Now you can submit your work to multiple publishers at the same time which increases the odds of getting published and can serve to reduce the waiting time.

Finally, another recent trend is the existence of podcasts looking for stories.

I hope this discussion helps writers to find a home for their work.

I must mention that the setting for The Price of Success is Baldwin’s Book Barn. This was my second published short story which took place at this location. My next post will discuss this fantastic store of used books.

THE ULTIMATE EXPERIMENT: A SCIENCE FICTION SHORT STORY, PART III

                                Restarting The Ultimate Experiment

                                     An unpublished short story

                              THE UNLIMATE EXPERIMENT

He could tell she did not understand his request.  “Wheel me into my study and you shall meet them.”

She wheeled him up to the sliding double doors of darkly stained wood.  When she opened them her eyes were greeted by floor to ceiling shelves overflowing with books.

“These are my very close friends.  I have spent my life with their thoughts, their ideas, and their dreams.  On these shelves are the works of scientists, philosophers, poets and great novelists.  I can gaze at their spines and recall the cherished words they hold.  This is where I choose to spend my last days.”  Over the days she cared for him she grew to understand how much these friends meant to him.

Now she saw Stewart as her patient and friend.

MY LATEST PUBLICATION: REVENGE AND REDEMPTION

I’m taking a break today from posting parts of my short story, Doomed By Progress, in order to share a link to my just published short story, Revenge and Redemption. For those familiar with my work, you will see that this is a departure from my usual fare.

                                                WARNING

The website, YELLOW MAMA, is a mature website.

Also, my story contains some rather strong language. But this is necessary to make the character who he is.

I hope you enjoy the story.

A SHORT STORY PUBLISHED

                               A SHORT STORY PUBLISHED

My short story, The Universe in Balance, can now be found on Corner Store Magazine.

Go to the home page, then to Ostarablot, March 21, volume 9 issue 4.

This was one of the first short stories I wrote nearly twenty years ago. It is quite different than the original. I eventually realized that the story’s premise was totally wrong resulting in a series of rewrites. The fact that it now appears in print is an indication that I finally got it right.

A NEW PUBLICATION

HE FLEW AWAY, A NEW PUBLICATION

I mentioned this in a past entry that I had my story, He Flew Away, accepted by Cemetery Moon.
It has now been published and I am providing a link if you should like to make a purchase. It’s been a long time since my last publication and my hope is this is only the beginning.
Check out the Cemetery Moon website, and if you are interested by a copy which includes my story.
Whatever you do, support writers. They are a voice during conflict as we are now suffering and a way to, however brief, enter the world of the mind.

PUBLISHING UPDATE

Some time ago I told you that I had a story accepted by Cemetery Moon. I recently received word that the story, He Flew Away, will be published close to Halloween. As a preview, if you remember our infestation of stink bugs on the east coast, you might enjoy this story. After the story is published I will provide a link to purchase the edition.

I also want to tell you that my good friend and published poet, Steve Kupferschmid, has had a poem accepted by The Aurorean, a magazine published in Farmington,ME. If you enjoy the poetry of Billie Collins, you are in for a treat. I will keep you updated on these publication.

I know, after promising to write about writing, I have let you down. It’s just that there is so much happening to this country, I cannot fail to have an opinion.

PUBLISHING UPDATE

At the beginning of the year I outlined my goals.  One was to publish some of my previously published work.

I’ve been working on getting some of my published poems back out there and just found out one has been accepted by Still Crazy which is both a print and online publication.

I’ll give more details when it appears.
