ACCELERANDO
BY
CHARLES STROSS
I mentioned this book in my last entry. I’ve finished reading it and what a ride. The author’s imagination and depth of knowledge are beyond belief. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and all its wonderful turns. It was not an easy read but I held on and the trip was worth it.
The author dealt; to a minor degree, with post humans but the changes which rapidly occurred with humans was enough to keep the book humming.
I’ve read some about post humans. There are those that theorize that they already exist; that our lives are some sort of SIMS game which they control at their pleasure. With all the dark matter, wormholes and unknowns in the universe there are plenty of places for them to hide.
I continue with my ‘what if’ moment. What if there are post Martians? The possibility that Mars once has water continues to grow with all the observations that our probes make. That water may have supported life, using our chemistry models of life, or a beast of a totally different nature. And since their civilization may be extremely ancient, perhaps they have crossed over to pure intelligence.
I have explored some of these ideas in my stories. I include a link if someone would like to see how I handle the subject. The Crystals of Life and Martian Rebirth are the stories I would like you to read in connection with this piece. Of course, I would like you to read every word I publish. I am still a dreamer.

I will continue to ruminate on this subject so you have not heard the last.

My consistent readers,
Two new stories can come your way for only 99 cents.
Cat’s Eyes and Second Chance were recently published by Books to Go Now.
So far the stories are only available on amazon.com, but that should change soon.
When the stories are available on the Books to Go Now website, if you don’t have a nook or kindle you can have them delivered to your computer in pdf format.
Let me know if you enjoy these stories.

My consistent readers, and all others that might tune-in,
HAPPY NEW YEAR
I hope you all have a prosperous New Year, and more important, that you accomplish what you set out to do.
I must admit that I spent most of New Year’s Eve and part of New Year’s Day tuned to the SYFY channel. For years now they run a Twilight Zone marathon for the New Year.
I’m addicted to the shows. The special effects, what few there are, are laughable, but these shows were made before the age of computers when special effects were second to the story. The writing and story lines are so wonderful. I remember when I was a kid that short story anthologies of Twilight Zone stories were published, and I would devour them.
Well, enough about me, wrong. Me is why this blog exists. I am writing this piece to tell you of my upcoming projects, what you will see and my plans for this year.
Books To Go Now will soon publish two of my stories, Cat’s Eyes which is a horror offering and Second Chance a science fiction piece.
This year I will hopefully find a publisher for my novel, The Beast Awaits. The story concerns stem cell research and the environment. Who wouldn’t want to read such a work?
I’m also working on a novella which follows a character I created, Elmo, in his younger years. Elmo first appeared in a novella entitled Elmo’s Sojourn which appeared in the anthology, Curious Hearts, published by Mélange Books.
Finally, I will attempt to publish a chapbook of my poetry, all of which has been published on this blog.
There are also a host of short stories and another novel, Sweet Depression, which I hope to edit.
That is what I hope you have an opportunity to read and what I hope to accomplish this year. I hope life treats you well and we spend another fulfilling year together.

My consistent readers,
Books to Go Now has just accepted my short story, Second Chance for publication. This will be my 27th published story.
The story is a work of science fiction which has a curious twist near the end.
It should be out sometime after Christmas.

My consistent readers,
Those with Kindles and Nooks, here’s another opportunity to read one of my stories, The Crystals of Life published by Books To Go Now.
I hope you buy it (it is really cheap), and enjoy it, please let me know. If you don’t enjoy it, let me know why. I have a writer’s ego, able to compliments and criticism.

My consistent readers,
A BIG THANKS.
I just received a royalties check from Books To Go Now.
Buying my beach house is still on the pilot light, and we have an electric stove, but at this point in my career, the important thing to me is that people are reading my work.
Last quarter, three people bought my story, Martian Rebirth. Fourteen bought Unholy Ground.
I first want to once again say thanks. I would also ask you, if you don’t mind, to post a comment on amazon.com. A comment would be appreciated whether you liked my stories or not. Writing is a lonely experience, and feedback is important.

My consistent readers,
I would like to ask a favor of those of you who would like to read my work for free.
Go to your library and ask them to order New Moon Rising in paperback. If you do that, you and others can have a free read. I have already donated a copy to my local library.
At this point in my writing career what I feel is most important is that people read my work.
Also, you can ask libraries to order my story, Martian Rebirth, as an eBook. It is available to libraries through OverDrive. Soon more of my stories will also be available to libraries using this website.
Thanks,
Walt
