when we forget….

a child
dies
in the streets
of san juan
a father
buries
an only son

for
corporate profits
a woman’s
condemned
to death
by policies
born
of blind fear

by
those
sworn
to protect
and
children
seeking only

from freedom’s womb
by
broken promises

cannot become
great
again
when we abandon
what
made us
great
in the beginning
our
humanity
