MY ATTEMPT AT WRITING POETRY: CITY MORN

Accepted for publication by Expressive Arts Review, 1974

             CITY MORN

Sunlight filtering thru elevated

Roadways,

Dawn, finding its way thru twilight

As the sleeping city greets another

Day,

Delicate steel webs vaulting gray

Rivers,

Ribbons of concrete conveying

Sleepy-eyed travelers,

The hush of night giving way to

Din of traffic,

Morning-sky reds lost to haze,

Another day begins.

POEMS @ FLEETING THOUGHTS

These are the thoughts of an old man as the world sees me. I feel I am younger than they think. Reality has not yet caught up to me.

NO GOING BACK

These are the thoughts of an old man as the world sees me. I feel I am younger than they think. Reality has not yet caught up to me. NO GOING BACK

I want to go back

To right my wrongs,

I want to go back

To enjoy the moments

The best moments

Of my life,

I want to go back

To appreciate the good

And try to obliterate

The bad,

I know this a dream Impossible,

But in dreams

My desires Are accomplished.

A SAD POEM

This poem is based on an incident I cannot forget.

Grandpa, while on a cruise ship held his granddaughter

on the edge of a window looking out on the ocean.

The eighteen-month old child struggled and grandpa

lost his grip. And the child plummeted.

I cannot imagine what the remainder of the cruise

Was like for this family,

Guilt, sorrow and the hate, all these emotions

generated on a relaxing vacation.

I cannot imagine the thoughts this child had

as she fell, sure there was safety waiting for her.

THE THOUGHTS OF A CHILD

The child’s thoughts

Falling,

Sure welcoming arms

Awaited her,

The child’s thoughts,

The mystery of this event,

Too young

To make this lonely journey,

Waiting for safety

As you fall

Into the sea,

Into the abyss

To which we all must journey.

FEAR

I am not afraid d
Of dying,
What I fear most
Is not living.
REALITY

Death is an
Important moment
Of life,
Not because
You are gone,
But because
Your days
Of accomplishing
Are over.

These two pieces were written with the thoughts of how
we are constantly told what to do to prolong life.
But in reality, the prolonged life may be a life of
little value.
Old age does take its toll.
And some thoughts when you achieve an age
you can’t believe are in conflict with the past
and present.

TRAGEDY AND GREED

Planes crash,

People die,

And industry

Gets slapped

On the wrist.

OUR FATE

We are nothing but a life-form created to appreciate that life, appreciate all life.

We have failed.

Through ignorance and greed, we have chosen profit before compassion.

destroying our world without concern for the implications.

Better luck next time.

VALUE

When you can buy
Anything you desire
Those possessions
No longer have
Value.

Life’s Cycle

When young
You reach
To the future,
In old age
The reach is done,
Now,
The waiting begins.

POEMS AND FLEETING THOUGHTS: THE HUMANITY OF MISTAKES.

Have you ever made a mistake and said, “I’m only human?”
Being a writer of science fiction, my mind dwelled on the phrase.

Who knows why?

Of course at this point I let my imagination take over, conquering rational thought. I pictured an expedition to a distant planet much like ours. They landed and found no occupants. After months of searching one of the team found a document explaining the demise of the civilization. “We were a race of perfection. No mistakes were ever made. Eventually, we die of boredom.
